TREASURER’S REPORT TO THE AGM

Treasurer Harry Wright began by thanking Mr Stuart Dorward for agreeing to Examine and Audit the accounts.

The major item of expenditure for the year covered the visit of our friends from Laon. This was kept to a reasonable level due to our being able to share the French coach for the Beaulieu visit. Additional extra items were costs associated with the extra publicity carried out involving the production of new printed material and pens publicising the Association’s website. Both the Fête des Rois and the Poisson d’Avril made small profits due in part to members’ support for the raffles.

The current level of subscriptions was discussed and it was pointed out that there had been no increase for some seven years despite the inflationary pressures on the Association’s fixed costs. It was decided and approved by the meeting to increase individual membership from £6 to £8 and family membership from £8 to £10. Corporate membership will remain at £12. The new rates to apply from August 2008.

MEMBERSHIP

Gill Foster the Membership Secretary reports that currently around 60% of members have renewed for 2007/08 which is an improvement over last year. Any members who have forgotten to renew are encouraged to do so as soon as possible. The current rates are still £6 for individuals, £8 for families and £12 for corporate membership. Gill's address is included in the news item below.

COMMITTEE ELECTIONS

There being no new nominations or indeed volunteers the existing Chairman and Committee were re-elected en bloc.

A family picnic on a summer’s day

As the Chairman mentioned in his AGM report one of the new events tried out this year was a summer family picnic. Held at the Littleton Recreation Ground this proved to be a popular and successful gathering. It took the form of a “bring and share” afternoon feast with mini boules tournament for adults and children playing in the park.

It is hoped to repeat this formula in the coming year and to attract more members with their families.

NEW PUBLICITY ITEMS

Members are urged to distribute the new publicity leaflets and promotional pens when and wherever they see an appropriate opportunity at local events, outlets etc.,
